March Topic: Indoctrination, Education, and Critical Thinking

Since March is a 1/3 of the way passed, I suppose its time to roll out the March topic of the month.  This is the hazards of running a website  while raising 3 kids and working full time.  If you listened to the last 5 minutes of the February podcast, you heard how amorphously this month’s topic came together.  To even give it a name was a bit like trying nail jelly to the wall.  Ultimately, we came up with the imperfect and clunky “Indoctrination, Education and Critical Thinking.”
At its core, we’re trying to explore how to raise our children.  As teachers, we’re also acutely aware of how we educate other people’s children.  We’re primarily concerned with how to teach faith to our kids, but, like all learning, the rubber hits the road at the intersection of knowledge and inquiry.
I want to ask the questions about how to show my kids the values of my faith and also give them the tools to think critically for themselves.  Whatever that question really looks like is what this month is about.
Peace and Grace,
-Jacob and the Nonpropria team
